Mini Red Canyon Day Trip | Red Bluff

So awhile back I heard about this beautiful canyon that was close to NOLA where you could hike through streams, see a river up close and climb through a mini grand canyon. It sounded like a magical place, and I couldn't believe that Mississippi had such a wonder. Since the day I heard about this canyon I wanted to visit, and a few weeks ago, I got my wish...

We woke up bright and early on a Saturday morning and started our trek to Red Bluff in Foxworth, MS. We made a few pit stops for breakfast and hiking snacks - a must in my opinion. When we arrived at the Red Bluff parking area the place was packed!

After making our way to the bluff's edge, I could not believe how deep and pretty this was! I was amazed at how something so different could be so far away from any terrain like the real grand canyon. There were a few people on the edge taking pictures, enjoying their lunch and just hanging out.

Next, we went down the trail so we could walk inside of the actual canyon. The trek down was shady and gorgeously green. It had a lot of roots and steep downhill areas. If you wanted to go directly to the canyon, make a u-turn right at the bottom of the trail and follow the stream into the canyon. We chose to go straight across and go see Pearl River. That walk was also through a stream and led right to the river. It was so shallow, people were walking in and swimming around.

After getting a little lost, we headed back from where we came to go into the canyon and took a right at the fork in the trail. After climbing some very steep terrain we found ourselves on the edge of the canyon about midway up. It was strenuous but so pretty!

All in all, this was a gorgeous day trip from New Orleans and we had a great time! If you go, I recommend wearing water shoes or sneakers that you don't care about and bring some snacks / water!
